Making a Comfortable Office Space

Most people tend to put the focus on making their home welcoming but if you realise just how much time you spend at the office, it might be worth considering tweaking your workspace to make it a better place to be.

The first thing to remember is to keep the work area free of clutter. This can be distracting while you are trying to work so remove anything from the area that you really need. At the end of every working day clear the space so that when you arrive at work next morning the space is ready for you to start work.

As far as possible, consider creating a harmonious feel to your workspace. Ensure that the furniture matches and that the colours you choose are easy on the eye. This is not so easy to achieve in a shared space, but it is possible for those who have an office to themselves. Make sure you remove items that are broken and add your own touches such as a picture or desk lamp.

It is important to keep the workplace organised. If you do not have systems in place to help to keep clutter at bay, then create them. Have a working day that is organised too so that you are checking emails and completing other tasks at set times of the day. Avoid falling into the trap of simply moving paperwork around your desk. Once you have the paperwork decide immediately what should be done with it so that it does not need to hang around.

A touch of nature can bring a very fresh feel to any office. Consider having plants around, flowers or even seashells to lighten the décor in the room and remind you of the outdoors. If you do have plants, just remember to take care of them!
